The industry has changed so much since then. Cruise lines now have ships within ships, floating apartments, and everything from round-the-clock butler service to private chefs.
River cruising is not immune, either! It seems to me that post-Covid people are making a conscious choice to treat themselves, to add just a little more and take the suite over a balcony.
That was certainly the case with my 2024 Christmas Markets cruise on the Main & Rhine. Every one of the suites sold out within a few days.
Then smart and savvy solo travellers grabbed up the great spots allocated for them.
So now, as I plan for my 2026 Christmas Markets of the Danube cruise I am sending out the alert and creating a waiting list for those who might have missed out before and want to see what life on the river in a suite looks like.
